Architectural influence in digital art for TaleSpinner Brewery

There is always more to see, to feel, and to experience in life. There is abundance beyond our imagination in this world and it awaits us all if we open our eyes to what is already around us. Just look closer!

The original piece was created in Adobe Illustrator by an architect/illustrator.

Every label tells a story…. Here’s the artist’s story

What is your art background like?
I have always indulged in creative activities whether in school, at home, or at uni. I am a qualified architect now working as an unqualified illustrator and business manager. Smokkeldoodle is my side hustle, born out of illustrations done for my friends, which just won’t die down because they just keep asking for more!

What inspires you as an artist?
My son is the center of my world and is also the inspiration and motivation to all I do. I love line art, detail, and humor.

What do you hope viewers will feel/experience when they view your art?
Know there is more. There is always more to see, to feel, and to experience in life. There is abundance beyond our imagination in this world and it awaits us all if we open our eyes to what is already around us. Just look closer!

Does this particular piece have a backstory you could share?

The concept for this label was presented to me by the TaleSpinner owners. The name “Stories4Floors” represents the four stories of 57 Factory Street in downtown Nashua, NH. This building is home to Tale Spinner Brewery and Rambling House Food & Gathering. Being based in South Africa, I listened to their descriptions of downtown Nashua and studied many photographs, then let my imagination take on the rest. You’ll see easter eggs throughout the piece that are nods to the people who built and work at 57 Factory Street, as well as some of the sights of downtown Nashua. As an architect, I really enjoyed doing this illustration and getting to know a bit about this faraway city in the process.

What else would you like people to know about you, your art in general, or this piece?
I love doing narrative illustrations especially for Tale Spinner. I mostly do illustrations for kids and would love to illustrate a children’s book one day. I am South African, and based out of Pretoria, but have clients all over the world!

Anything else?
This illustration is part of a whole range of labels done for TaleSpinner and it has been a blast doing work for them. Due to distance, I haven’t had the opportunity to taste a single drop of their beers, but judging by the fun and creative inspiration stories behind each of their brews, it is sure to be a great experience. I look forward to the opportunity to visit Nashua, TaleSpinner, and try out the beers someday soon. In the meantime, check out my Instagram account!
