We often talk about taking the pain and stress out of label ordering so when it came time to choose seeds to share this spring, lavender seemed like a good choice. The pretty plant with delicate purple blossoms inspired our label-covered envelope. We literally laid-it-out in lavender, as the old phrase goes.
The Egyptians used lavender for mummification and the herb was used to mask the odor of the deceased before modern embalming practices. The name for lavender comes from the Latin, “to wash,” and its use goes back at least 2500 years.
The fragrance is both invigorating and calming. Fresh lavender, dried lavender, lavender tea and lotions… some of us love them all. The delightfully refreshing lavender lemonade at Pickity Place in Mason, NH, is a more exotic example of the use of lavender as a flavoring. Burdick’s lavender-flavored gourmet chocolates are also NH-made and out of this world.
For our mailer, we designed a large label covering the entire front of our envelopes. The texture is lovely— compare the textured cover label to the untextured seed packet label and it is apparent that depth and interest can be achieved with our digital textured labels.
